Bring Your Family To Work Day

Sunday at Sammy Hagar’s Beach Bar at Bally’s was really a great time…and not just because the staff was convinced that the boss had shown up unannounced when they saw Scott stroll through the front entrance carrying a guitar case either – that was pretty cool though.  No, it was great because the weather was about as perfect as you could hope for, the drinks were cold and plentiful, the crowd was appropriately lubed up on sun screen and alcohol, and, perhaps best of all…each of us in the band had a wife, girlfriend, son, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister, cousin, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, or some combination of the aforementioned, there to support us at this late-afternoon all-ages show.  Paul’s 3 nephews came up to sing and help their uncle Paul front the band for a song and, later, Scott’s daughter came up to play the Guitar Hero guitar and rock-out right next to her dad…the look on her face was equal parts pride and embarrassment.  It was also my wife’s birthday the next day (Slash’s too…but he wasn’t there) so we gave her a B-day shout-out, but spared her the embarrassment of actually singing to her, and several of her friends came out to hang with her in the sun and see what it was that her husband actually did for a living.  Her one friend (let’s call him Bill…since that’s his name) asked me, between sets, to point out which of my band mates it was that I was constantly poking fun at for being such a bore – I pointed to Dave (who was at the fence staring out over the beach…I’m pretty sure he was counting grains of sand) and said “That’s Dave, he plays Bass and…” before I could even finish my sentence I heard “Zzzzzzz…” as I turned back toward Bill to see that he had already fallen asleep at the mere sight of Dave – It was ok though…we put him in the shade and he awoke before show’s end.  Honestly though…it really was a special day and I hope there are more like it in the future.  When you work with the same people for a long time you can forget sometimes that they have many other sides to them…it’s really nice to get to meet and/or spend time with their families and close friends as well as get to see them interact with the people that they are closest to.  Thank you ALL for being there!!

Justin
